Egyptian national and cofounder of al-Qaida. Atef is a member
of the majlis al shura and military committee and is the alleged second in command.**RF3**
He is presently at large, indicted for alleged connection in the East African
embassy bombings.**RF4** Atef’s
daughter is married to bin Laden’s son. It is believed that in the event of
bin Laden’s capture or death, Atef will become al-Qaida’s leader.
